Sex Edition Cover

Fri at 8:06am on Feb 12th, 2010

By Vaughn Wallace, Photo Editor / Erik Hinton, Managing Editor

This is the photo that ran on the cover of Friday's Sex Edition. Erik Hinton (Managing Editor) and Vaughn Wallace (Photo Editor) based this photograph in a Baroque style. Erik wanted to avoid the cliche'd "girl wrapped around guy" or "overtly sexual" overtones that most people associate with sex.

The models in the photograph are all college students who volunteered to participate in the shoot. Each character roughly cooresponds to an aspect of college sexuality and an accompanying story in Friday's issue.

The shoot itself took alittle over two hours and included two cameras, three hotlights, two speedlights and a spray-bottle of olive oil. Erik served as the creative director for the shoot, casting and positioning models, tweaking lighting and organizing the set. Vaughn handled the technical details of the photographs, managing the cameras and lighting and toning the final products. We photographed the scene in RAW to allow for maximum flexibility while designing the photos for newsprint.

We wanted to try something different with this year's sex edition and feel we've done a good job. Let us know what you think!
